Domestic abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of culture, religion, ethnicity, or background and you have the right to live free from violence and control. Your safety, dignity, and voice matter.
We understand that survivors from global majority and minoritised backgrounds may face unique challenges in seeking help. These can include:
At ESDAS, we will always respect your culture, beliefs, and values and we will stand beside you in your right to make choices about your own life. We can:
Your safety and freedom are your right no matter your immigration status, language, or community expectations.
Our partner agency Your Sanctuary has a specialist IDVA offering support for people experiencing domestic abuse from diverse communities. Contact details are below.
At ESDAS, we are committed to language that is inclusive, accurate, and empowering. Many organisations are moving away from terms like “ethnic minority” or “BAME” because these terms can feel outdated, limiting, or even harmful.
We use the term “global majority” to recognise the diverse communities we support, people who are often racialised as “ethnic minorities” in specific contexts such as the UK. This term challenges the assumption that whiteness is the default and reflects the reality that people of colour make up the majority of the world’s population.
Using “global majority” helps us communicate more accurately, respectfully, and in a way that acknowledges global power dynamics while empowering the communities we serve.
We understand that reaching out for help can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re unsure about your situation, ready to take action, or somewhere in between, ESDAS is here to listen, believe, and support you.
Our service is free, confidential, non-judgmental, and independent, available to anyone affected by domestic abuse who lives or works in Reigate & Banstead, Tandridge, or Mole Valley. If you live outside of these areas. Refuge is a nationwide charity that will be able to provide support wherever you live.
