There are lots of ways you can volunteer to support those surviving domestic abuse.

Volunteer with ESDAS

We are not currently recruiting new volunteers, but if you’d like to be considered when applications reopen, please email your details and preferred role to becci@esdas.org.uk.

Volunteer roles

Emotional Support

1:1 support to help clients rebuild their lives (e.g., job applications, education, community activities)

Court Support

Emotional and practical support for clients at hearings or meetings (training provided)

Freedom Programme (1:1)

Deliver the 15-week programme to clients who cannot attend groups (day/evening, usually online)

Course Support

Practical and emotional help during in-person programmes (Redhill)

Office Admin

Updating databases or supporting outreach workers with client admin

Events & Community

Help with fundraising, social media, website, talks, or representing ESDAS at local events. Training and materials provided

What we look for

  • Volunteers aged 18+ (women only for direct client work, under Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act).
  • Good listening skills, confidentiality, and a non-judgemental approach.
  • Life experience, personal resilience, and/or lived experience of abuse (with adequate recovery time).
  • Men are welcome in non-female client facing roles. *Subject to Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act (Women Only).

What we offer you

  • Ongoing training and annual volunteer day.
  • Regular 1:1 support with our Volunteer Manager.
  • The chance to gain skills, build confidence, and meet new people.
  • Out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed.

All volunteers’ complete induction, safeguarding, data protection, and domestic abuse awareness training. Some roles require references and a DBS check.
